What We Evaluate During Your Security Assessment
Entry Points (Doors, Windows, Loading Docks)
Where can someone physically enter your business? We check every door, window, and secondary entry point. Is the deadbolt commercial-grade or basic? Is the door frame reinforced? Can the lock be picked or drilled in seconds? We assess the physical vulnerability of every entry.
Lock Quality & Condition (Grade, Brand, Maintenance)
Is your lock Grade 1 certified (commercial-grade security)? Grade 2 (basic commercial)? Grade 3 (vulnerable)? Is it maintained or worn and stuck? Can it be replaced with something stronger, or does it need repair first? We evaluate every lock.
Access Control System (If You Have One)
You have keycards, keypads, or electronic locks? We check if they're working properly, if access logs are being maintained, if the system actually controls who comes and goes. Many businesses have access control that isn't configured correctly.
Key Management (Who Has Keys, How Many, Control)
How many people have copies of your master key? Do you know who has what key? Can you revoke access if someone leaves? A good key management system means you know exactly who can get in.
Security Culture & Protocols (Staff Training, Procedures)
Do your staff lock doors consistently? Do they know the security protocols? Is there a procedure for after-hours access? Physical locks are only half the picture — human behavior matters too.
Lighting, Cameras & Alarms
Are entry points well-lit at night? Do you have CCTV coverage? Is your alarm system armed and maintained? These work together with good locks to create real security.
Building & Fire Code Compliance
Your locks and access systems need to comply with Ontario building and fire codes. We check if you're compliant — especially important for high-traffic businesses.
Why a Security Assessment Actually Matters
Break-ins cost way more than prevention
Police reports, replaced equipment, stolen inventory, damaged doors, downtime, insurance claims. Total cost: thousands. A $500–$2,000 security upgrade prevents the entire thing.
You can't fix what you don't know is broken
You think you're secure. But maybe your back door is vulnerable. Maybe access control has gaps. An assessment reveals real problems — not the ones you assume exist.
You can prioritize your upgrades
If we say you need 15 upgrades, you're overwhelmed. But if we prioritize them — "Back door first, then front door, then access control" — it becomes manageable with a realistic budget.
Insurance companies like security plans
Some insurers reduce premiums if you show a professional security assessment and are implementing recommendations. Free assessment can literally save you money.
You sleep better at night
Knowing your business is actually secure — not just hoping — removes a lot of stress. You know exactly what your vulnerabilities are and have a plan to fix them.
You're prepared for inspections
If you ever face insurance inspections or police inspections, you already know what they'll find and have a plan to address it.
What Happens During Your Security Assessment
Step 1: Walkthrough
We walk through your entire property — every entry point, every lock, every security system. We take notes, photos, measurements. We test locks and check visibility.
Step 2: Documentation
We document every vulnerability — which locks are weak, which entry points are exposed, which systems aren't working properly. Nothing is missed.
Step 3: Recommendations
We give you a clear, prioritized list of upgrades. We explain why each matters and estimate costs. You get a detailed report you can use however you want.
Step 4: Implementation (Optional)
If you want us to handle the upgrades, we can. If you want another contractor, that's fine. The assessment is yours to use however you choose.
How Much Does a Security Assessment Cost?
Lock-Tech offers free security assessments for Ottawa businesses. No charge. No hidden costs. The assessment is completely free. You only pay if you decide to implement upgrades we recommend — and you're under no obligation to use us for that work.
This is how it should be. You shouldn't have to pay to find out if your business is vulnerable.
